Today is the first class in our current four-class set. We will begin class with our collocations exercise. Our reading this week is about American couples asking for cash in lieu of wedding gifts. America is becoming more like Korea. The vocabulary words will come from our reading. Be able to identify them in class. 

Vocabulary

• pragmatic - (adj) dealing with things sensibly and realistically in a way that is based on practical rather than theoretical considerations.
• Eschew- (verb) deliberately avoid using; abstain from.  
• tacky- (adj) showing poor taste and quality. ALSO, sticky
• altruistic - (adj) showing a disinterested and selfless concern for the well-being of others; unselfish.
