Today is the third class in your current December four class set. We will start class with a casual conversation. Our reading today is about officetels. Please read as much as you can. Highlight any words and phrases that are not familiar. I have also included some listening material. Please focus on time, not accuracy. Please listen to as much as you can, but you only have to listen once. We will review 7 vocabulary words. We are going to try to apply the words to everyday life.

Assertive (adjective) – confident and direct in expressing one’s opinions or needs.

She was assertive during the group discussion without being rude.

Contemplate (verb) – to think deeply or carefully about something.

He paused to contemplate his future after graduation.

Elusive (adjective) – difficult to find, catch, or understand.

The solution to the problem proved elusive.

Hinder (verb) – to slow down or interfere with progress.

Heavy traffic can hinder emergency vehicles.

Integrity (noun) – honesty and strong moral principles.

The student was praised for her integrity during the exam.

Moderate (adjective / verb) – average in amount; to make less extreme.

Adjective: He exercises at a moderate pace.

Verb: The teacher helped moderate the debate.

Prevail (verb) – to succeed or be victorious in the end.

Despite the challenges, teamwork helped them prevail.
