Today is the first class in your new May four class set. We will start class with a casual conversation. Our reading today is a comparison of Seoul and Tokyo. Please read as much as you can. Highlight any words and phrases that are not familiar. I have also included some listening material. Please focus on time, not accuracy. Please listen to as much as you can, but you only have to listen once. We will introduce our 10 vocabulary words.

Evidence – Information that supports a claim or belief.
Example: The detective found evidence that helped solve the case.
Infer – To make a logical guess based on clues and knowledge.
Example: From her tone, I could infer that she was upset.
Narrative – A story or account of events.
Example: The book is a narrative about a young hero's journey.
Character – A person or figure in a story, play, or movie.
Example: The main character learns an important lesson.
Conflict – A struggle between opposing forces, often the main problem in a story.
Example: The conflict in the novel is between good and evil.
Describe – To give details about something or someone.
Example: Please describe the setting of the story.
Theme – The central idea or message in a work of literature.
Example: A common theme in the book is friendship.
Perspective – A point of view or way of looking at something.
Example: The story is told from the narrator’s perspective.
Revise – To change or improve something, especially writing.
Example: I need to revise my essay to make it clearer.
