Today is the first class of your new class set. We will start class with a casual conversation, complete our data storytelling, and finish with the discussion questions. Today’s material is about the rule of thirds.

Applying the Ratio: How might you apply the "Rule of Thirds" (feeling good 1/3, okay 1/3, and crappy 1/3 of the time) to your current personal or professional projects? Does this framework change how you view your difficult days?

Performance vs. Effort: Pappas mentions that taking off her watch shifted her focus from "pace" to "effort". In your own life, what "watches" or external metrics (like deadlines, social media metrics, or competitive benchmarks) might be preventing you from focusing on your true effort?

Redefining Success: During her ultramarathon, Pappas had to walk 40 miles. How does her experience challenge the traditional idea of "success" being defined by speed or perfect performance?

Self-Coaching: Pappas notes that the "Rule of Thirds" helped her learn how to coach herself. How can we build the internal resilience to remain on our own "team" when we face obstacles without external guidance?

The Long-Term Perspective: Pappas emphasizes the mantra, "It's a bad day, it's not a bad life" . How can individuals cultivate this perspective during periods of prolonged difficulty, and why is this distinction important for mental health while chasing long-term goals?
